Shalom, everyone. I’m Monte Judah with Lion and Lamb Ministries, bringing you the latest Messianic World Update. Today’s date is Friday, July 17, 2026.
The events unfolding around Israel and throughout the Middle East continue to accelerate at a remarkable pace. Every week we seem to move another step closer to the prophetic realities described by the Scriptures. While the headlines often appear chaotic, God’s Word reminds us that He is still sovereign over the nations. Nothing that is happening today has taken Him by surprise.
As believers in Messiah Yeshua, we are called to watch, discern, and pray—not from fear, but with confidence that the Lord is accomplishing His purposes. The Scriptures repeatedly instruct us to be watchmen, paying attention to the signs of the times while remaining faithful to God’s commandments and His covenant promises.
This week, one story has dominated international news: the United States has dramatically escalated military operations against Iran. What began as limited strikes has now expanded into a much broader campaign targeting military infrastructure along Iran’s southern coastline, particularly the facilities supporting attacks against international shipping in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
For many months I have explained that Iran has been employing a familiar negotiating strategy. They present one face to the international community while another element of their government continues aggressive military preparations. The narrative of “moderates” versus “hardliners” has served as a useful diplomatic tool, but in practical terms the Iranian regime has remained united in pursuing its strategic objectives.
It now appears that Washington has concluded the negotiations were simply buying time. Rather than reaching a lasting agreement, Iran continued delaying while preserving its military capabilities. As a result, military planners have shifted from diplomacy back to decisive action. According to reports, American forces are systematically targeting missile launchers, drone facilities, radar installations, logistics centers, and naval infrastructure used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
One of the most significant developments has been the focus on Bandar Abbas and the surrounding transportation network. By destroying bridges, roadways, and supply routes leading into this strategic naval port, coalition planners appear intent on eliminating Iran’s ability to project power through the Strait of Hormuz.
This tells us something very important.
The central issue is no longer simply Iran’s nuclear ambitions. While the nuclear program certainly remains a concern, the immediate battlefield objective appears to be denying Iran control over one of the world’s most strategic shipping lanes. Nearly a fifth of the world’s petroleum passes through the Strait of Hormuz. If Iran were able to close it, the economic consequences would ripple throughout the entire globe.
That explains why the military campaign is concentrating on crippling Iran’s ability to threaten maritime commerce.
Reports also indicate that future operations could expand far beyond the southern coastline. Iran’s mountainous geography makes transportation heavily dependent upon a relatively small number of bridges and transportation corridors. Destroying those critical connections would severely limit military movement throughout the country while simultaneously disrupting civilian infrastructure.
Likewise, discussion has begun regarding Iran’s electrical grid and key power-generation facilities. Modern warfare increasingly focuses on logistics rather than simply battlefield engagements. Without transportation, communications, and electrical power, military capability quickly deteriorates.
Another subject receiving considerable attention is the deeply buried underground facility often referred to as “Pickaxe Mountain.” Intelligence analysts believe this hardened installation may house significant portions of Iran’s remaining nuclear infrastructure. Because it is built deep within a mountain, it presents one of the most difficult military targets in the world.
Even if direct penetration proves difficult, analysts suggest that inducing structural collapse through repeated strikes could effectively neutralize the facility. Whether that becomes part of future operations remains to be seen, but it certainly illustrates how determined military planners appear to be in removing Iran’s strategic capabilities.
Of course, every military action produces a response.
Iran has threatened to use the Houthi forces in Yemen to disrupt commercial shipping moving through the Red Sea and toward the Suez Canal. Should those attacks intensify, the conflict could expand significantly, drawing additional regional powers into the fighting. The Houthis have already suffered severe military setbacks in previous confrontations with both Israel and the United States, making it uncertain whether they will fully embrace Tehran’s latest demands.
Should the Houthis once again begin launching missiles toward southern Israel, Jerusalem would almost certainly be compelled to re-enter the conflict directly. Although Israel has remained largely on the sidelines during this particular phase of operations, events can change very rapidly in the Middle East.
Behind all of these military developments lies a larger strategic reality.
Reports indicate that much of Iran’s military leadership has evacuated major installations in anticipation of sustained bombing campaigns. At the same time, evidence suggests that the operational plan now being executed closely resembles plans that were originally developed months ago before negotiations interrupted military preparations.
This reinforces an important lesson regarding international diplomacy.
Nations often prepare multiple courses of action simultaneously. Diplomatic negotiations do not necessarily replace military planning—they frequently occur alongside it. When negotiations fail, previously prepared military options can be implemented very quickly.
The stated objective now appears to be removing Iran’s long-term ability to threaten its neighbors, interfere with international commerce, and project military influence throughout the region. That objective extends beyond individual military installations and reaches into the infrastructure supporting the regime’s ability to wage war.
These are days that call for discernment rather than sensationalism.
We must continue praying for peace, praying for wisdom among leaders, and praying especially for the protection of Israel. Throughout Scripture, the Lord repeatedly reminds us that He watches over His covenant people. That promise has not changed, even as the nations continue to rage around them.
Looking ahead, several developments deserve our continued attention.
Although the United States has chosen to conduct much of this current campaign independently, the strategic relationship between America and Israel remains extraordinarily important. Political disagreements may arise between leaders, but the military and intelligence cooperation developed over decades has become one of the strongest security partnerships in the world.
That relationship extends far beyond public headlines and diplomatic statements. Intelligence sharing, missile defense cooperation, and joint technological development have benefited both nations in ways that most citizens never fully appreciate.
Continuing from the military developments surrounding Iran, it is equally important to understand the enduring relationship between the United States and Israel. Political leaders may disagree from time to time, but history demonstrates that the partnership between these two nations extends far beyond any single administration. Intelligence sharing, military cooperation, and technological innovation have strengthened both countries for decades.
One of the greatest examples of this partnership is Israel’s development of the Iron Dome missile defense system. Years ago, many questioned whether such technology could ever be effective. Israel pressed forward anyway, investing its own resources and ingenuity into a defensive shield that has since saved countless civilian lives. When the system proved itself under fire, cooperation with the United States naturally expanded into additional missile defense programs and future technologies. Today, that partnership continues to benefit both nations and serves as an example of how practical cooperation often rises above political disagreement.
Meanwhile, Israel continues its security operations along its northern border. Southern Lebanon remains a focal point as Israel works alongside Lebanese authorities in an effort to prevent Hezbollah from reestablishing military positions capable of threatening Israeli communities. Buffer zones are not about territorial expansion—they are about preventing another October 7-type attack from occurring in northern Israel. Recent discoveries of underground Hezbollah infrastructure only reinforce why Israeli leaders believe these security measures remain necessary.
In Gaza, Israel continues pursuing those responsible for the October 7 attacks while simultaneously allowing humanitarian aid to reach civilians. The Israeli government has repeatedly stated that every identified terrorist responsible for those atrocities will ultimately face justice. The distinction between caring for innocent civilians and pursuing terrorist organizations is one that often becomes blurred in international media coverage, yet it remains central to Israels stated objectives.
One trend that concerns me deeply is the increasing political hostility toward Israel here in the United States. This week, additional American political figures traveled to Israel, not to strengthen the alliance, but to criticize Israeli policy and amplify narratives that portray Israel as the aggressor. These visits increasingly appear connected to domestic political ambitions rather than genuine diplomatic efforts.
We also witnessed a troubling vote in Congress in which more than one hundred members supported ending American aid to Israel. Although the resolution failed, the number of supporters reflects a significant shift within segments of American politics. The rise of openly anti-Israel rhetoric should not be dismissed as merely partisan disagreement. It represents a broader cultural movement that deserves careful attention from anyone who values America’s historic alliance with Israel.
The Scriptures repeatedly remind us that nations will eventually gather against Jerusalem. While we should be cautious about assigning every headline to a specific prophetic passage, we should not ignore the unmistakable trajectory we see developing. Public opinion toward Israel continues to change across much of the Western world, and that shift should cause believers to pray even more earnestly for discernment and wisdom.
I often think of Israel’s situation through a simple illustration. Imagine a young man who has spent years being bullied. Eventually he grows stronger, learns to defend himself, and finally stands against those attacking him. Instead of recognizing his right to self-defense, observers suddenly accuse him of being the aggressor simply because he refused to remain a victim. That illustration helps explain much of what we are witnessing today regarding Israel’s efforts to defend its citizens against Hamas, Hezbollah, and other Iranian-backed terrorist organizations.
Former Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren also observed that many international reports highlight Lebanon’s suffering while omitting years of Hezbollah rocket attacks against northern Israel and the displacement of Israeli civilians. Regardless of differing political perspectives, understanding the full context is essential when evaluating events in the region.
Israeli elections later this year could reshape the country’s political landscape. Ongoing debates over military service, regional security, and relations with the United States will undoubtedly influence those elections. One person to watch in Israel is Gadi Eisenkot, a conservative who is building a campaign to challenge PM Benjamin Netanyahu. Likewise, the approaching American midterm elections are likely to feature Israel as an increasingly prominent issue.
As followers of Messiah, our responsibility is not to become consumed by politics but to remain anchored in God’s Word. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem because Scripture commands us to do so. We pray for righteous leadership, wisdom among nations, protection for innocent lives, and above all, that God’s purposes will be accomplished according to His perfect will.
For believers who seek to understand the times, these are reminders that the world is becoming increasingly aligned with the prophetic picture described throughout the Bible. Rather than responding with fear, we should respond with greater faithfulness. This is the season to deepen our walk with the Lord, remain steadfast in His commandments, support His people, and proclaim the good news of Messiah Yeshua while there is still time.
